CampHali 2016
Every October, Halifield Elementary pupils pack up their bags and personal effects for a week-long leadership training camp. They leave mummy and daddy to spend a week with their peers and friends in camp; learning new skills and honing known ones. This year, Camphali 2016 took place from Sunday, 23rd to Friday 28th October, 2016.
Similar to the NYSC and Military, the Camp Commandant was Elementary School Teacher, Ms. Walter and the RSM was Mrs. Wyse. The theme “Enterprising Minds” was chosen with the current economic downturn in mind and the school’s vision which is “to raise total and distinct pupils through academics and life skills”.
There were (eighty-one) 81 campers between the ages of 5 and 11 and nineteen (19) staff members. The campers were split into two (2) groups viz: junior and senior campers. The 2 groups were split into six (6) houses and named after indigenous and international entrepreneurs.
Our campers had a great time learning skills such as video editing, comics’ production, ankara works, beads making, soap making etc. There were a host of other activities to keep them engaged and learning such as aerobics, endurance trek, excursions, community service activities, games, movies etc
Through all the activities a fore-listed, pupils were able to imbibe leadership, collaborative, public-speaking and marketing skills.
CampHali 2016 came to an end on the 28th of October, 2016 with a Camp Night Fiesta held in the Elementary Hall where pupils displayed all the skills that they had acquired during the camp to their parents and guardians.
It was a week-long of fun; an experience that will last a life time!!!
